In the earlier 19th century, cavalry and foot regiments of the Caucasian Linear and Black Sea Cossack troops, which had their settlements along the Caucasian line, played an important military and political role in the Caucasus. In 1860, based on the regiments of the Black Sea and the Caucasian Linear Cossack troops, the Kuban and the Terek Cossack Hosts were created, which were allocated new territories acquired during the Caucasian War. Part of the Kuban Cossack Host, plastun battalions are well known for their martial and tactical qualities, which terrified the enemy.
